Decorative Needlepoint Models

Watching a design take shape on canvas or fabric as my needle goes in and out, filling tiny spaces with threads of many colors and textures, is one of my pleasures . I like seeing those tiny stitches adding up, row by row, stacking themselves together, forming a new textile surface. The beauty of hand stitched needlework is seeing the interplay of the stitched colors and textures. I enjoy the play of shadow and light across the surfaces of the stitched fabrics, highlighting the contrasts of smooth and "bumpy" areas.
During the winter months on sunny days, I often open the window shutters wide just to watch the sunbeams traveling across the studio, lighting up the stitchery like a magic lantern, turning the piled stitched models into a treasure of glitter and brilliant highlights. I like seeing the faces of my needlepointed figures literally light up as if on stage, like a spotlight, the sunbeams travel across the stitched faces highlighting each face in turn, animated and sparkling for a few sunny moments.
