From Illustration to Needlepoint Art
The Acrobats - Ooops!...Call the Doctor!
From illustration art to needlepoint art - above is a sampling of fine gouache painted illustrations surrounding a stitched canvas with the acrylic painted needlepoint canvas on the bottom right next to the stitched piece and gouache illustration shown on the above right.
I had an idea to design a group of acrobats for a long time as another addition to my ongoing Circus series but could not figure out how to present them in an interesting and humorous way - then inspiration came from an unusual source, my Orthopedic Spine surgeon. I painted the original illustration of these slipping and tumbling acrobats as a thank you card for my Dr and another colorful design was created.
It was a pleasure to use various colors of Kreinik's Silk Serica along with two colors of Kreinik #12 metallic braids and Pearl Cotton #5 from DMC and Anchor to complete the stitching of this 18 mesh canvas. Next step is to have the canvas made into a decorative cushion using a brilliant ultramarine blue textured Thai Silk fabric. Lottie shown in the upper left corner is currently the second model being made.
