Fabric and "Craft" Shop in PV, Mexico
I found the local fabric shop in downtown Puerto Vallarta, Mexico today. Lots of bright colored fabrics and colors and lots of ladies in there.
Bought 5 meters of a red rayon floral print that reminded me of Russian matroishka dolls --- cost me about $2.US per meter of fabric. US made fabrics cost the highest per meter.
Went to the upstairs level of this large shop and found some cotton and rayon embroidery floss by a company named Iris (DMC). Limited range of colors but in US dollars--a skein of cotton floss would be .10¢ and rayon floss would cost slightly more.
There was a limited selection of beads, sequins, buttons and trims of all sorts in laces and ribbons.
Didn't see any needlework or knitting patterns considering they sold knitting needles of all sizes. I would imagine the tradition of stitching is geared more for self design and use of traditional passed down embroidery motifs.
